Pharaoh's Dance
Carnival Center for the Performing Arts
Miami , Florida

The Art in Public Places Trust hired Gary Moore, a well known Miami artist, to create a hardscape feature for the southwest corner of the new Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Moore was inspired by a Miles Davis recording "Pharaoh's Dance," and titled his creation with the same name. Ten colors and more than 6500 lf of zinc strip were used to turn the artist's work into a 5500 sq.ft. art landscape around the Ballet-Opera Hall. Patient, highly-skilled terrazzo craftsmen, in direct coordination with the artist, insured that all the curves and spaces accurately represented his interpretation of Miles Davis. Mr. Moore's signature was installed in the "Table," a raised platform for impromptu performances.
